Pathway and Competitive

Supporting gymnasts who are ready to train with increased commitment and focus.

"Progression is built through confidence, commitment and care."

Our Pathway & Competitive programme supports gymnasts who demonstrate the ability, motivation and commitment to train at a higher level. Training focuses on technical development, strength, flexibility and performance, while prioritising wellbeing and long-term athlete development.

This programme follows Scottish Gymnastics guidance and includes regular training and competition as part of a structured development pathway.

  • How does a gymnast join the Pathway & Competitive programme?

Gymnasts are invited into the programme by coaches. Invitations are based on individual development, readiness and commitment, and are discussed with parents.

  • Is this programme suitable for all gymnasts?

Not all gymnasts will want or need to follow a competitive pathway. Our recreational programme remains a positive and valuable option for many children.

  • How do I pay?

Payments are processed through Sage each month.

If you have any issues with payments or need support, please contact our Treasurer at treasurer@aboynegc.co.uk.

  • What should my child wear?

Comfortable clothing such as shorts/leggings and a t-shirt or leotard. Bare feet are best.

Hair must be tied up and no jewellery, including earrings.

  • How does progression work?

Progression is based on individual readiness and development rather than age. Coaches assess gymnasts against technical, physical and behavioural criteria and recommend progression when appropriate, in consultation with parents.

  • What is the time commitment?

Training hours increase as gymnasts progress through the pathway. Commitment expectations are discussed with families before progression.

  • Are competitions compulsory?

Competitive opportunities vary by level and are introduced gradually. Participation in competitions is an expected part of the Pathway & Competitive programme, and coaches will advise families on appropriate events and expectations.
